PRESENTATION of the Centre Généalogique et Héraldique de la Marne
Historically, the Centre Généalogique et Héraldique de la Marne (CG51) is an emanation of the Centre Généalogique de Champagne that was created in 1978. It is a founding member of the Union Régionale des Centres Généalogiques de Champagne-Ardenne (Champagne-Ardenne Généalogie) and member of the FFG (Fédération Française de Généalogie).
The Centre Généalogique et Héraldique de la Marne regroups nearly a thousand members in France, Europe and the rest of the World, whose goal is genealogical research through the mutual aid of its members.
The CG51 is an association under the law of 1901, declared in the Préfecture de la Marne le 12.12.1988 sous le n° 1295, J.O. du 11.01.1989, n° 2 ; et J.O. du 05.07.1997, n° 997, page 2968. Siren : 379 181 878, Siret : 379 181 878 00024, Code APE : 9499 Z.
It proposes the following services :
- A quarterly magazine named CHAMPAGNE GÉNÉALOGIE. Made in the joy of sharing by our members for other members, it is a rich and dense source of information (in French only).
It constitutes the principal link among the members and includes the following topics :
- Questions & Answers,
- Heraldic Tribune (we create emblems for the towns and have published a book concerning them, Armorial des communes du département de la Marne, by Jean-Paul Denise, in December 2002),
- Nos quartiers (members publish parts or their entire family trees),
- Nous sommes tous cousins... (the family filiation of the different members),
- Lignes agnatiques (the male patronymic branch of a family),
- Listes "éclair" (the families studied by our members),
- Généalogies (family genealogies),
- Notices biographiques et historiques (biographies and historical writings),
- Vente des Biens Nationaux (properties owned, bought and sold throughout history),
- Vie du Centre (events occuring in the association), Carnet (events occuring to members),
- Les lavoirs de la Marne (photo-editorials on village fountains),
- Croix et calvaires de la Marne (Crosses and calvaries in the Marne),
- Petites Annonces (classified advertisements), ...
- Digitalization of civil status records for the creation of tables ; presently, over 2 million digital photos, 4 million pages (Contact us for more information).
- A " Répertoire des Familles Étudiées de l'An 2006 " (a repertory of all the families studied).
- We hand-copy mariage manuscrits of every community of the Marne starting with the XVIth century to 1802 which are then computerized. We do the same for birth and death certificates, mariage contracts and create decennial tables for the period 1803 to 1902. Available for consultation at : 14, rue Pasteur 51000 Châlons-en-Champagne, France.
- Our databank offers the possiblity to acquire a table of all the records concerning a family (Contact us for more information).
- Centralization of civil status records :

- Our information center is open the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 noon (12 months per year) : 14 rue Pasteur, salle de réunions, ground floor, Châlons-en-Champagne.
- Our library offers several thousand publications (books, magazines and others edited by both French and foreign genealogic associations , genealogical manuscrits and other genealogical, heraldic and historical works).
- Once member of the CG51, you may post questions in the magazine where our services and other members will be more than pleased to answer free of charge in the following editions.
- Local Branch meetings are held at Reims, Epernay, Dormans, Vitry-le-François, Paris.
- Our library aand information center is open Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m to 12 and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. : 14 rue Pasteur, salle de réunions, ground floor, Châlons-en-Champagne (Closed in July and Christmas to New Years).
- Membership Services :
- Free consultation of marriage manuscript tables and a databank of over 3 million records at our main office.
- Compilation of tables of birth, marriage, death, baptism and burial records (Search for a town).
- Previous editions of CHAMPAGNE GENEALOGIE are at low members' prices as indicated on the website, in the magazine and the association center.
- Repertory of the names publicated in our magazine from 1981 to 1988 (consultation at main office).
- Repertory 2006 of the families studied by members. (Special members' price available at main office).
- Genealogy Tables available at main office.
